Product Description

Lacey carbon films are similar to the holey carbon films in that they have open areas but because of the fine lacey mesh structure they offer a greater percentage of open area in comparison (see micrograph). They provide the thinnest possible support film while maintaining adequate strength and give practically no background interference in the TEM. As much of the specimen is unsupported, these films are appropriate for use where a structure free background is of importance. Lacey carbon films are particularly suitable for studying some nanotubes, acicular crystals and biological/materials specimens.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.

Lacey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Optimized Surface for High-Resolution TEM

The lacey carbon film offers a unique, low-background surface, enabling precise imaging of small and delicate particulates in TEM. Its lace-like pattern and high electrical conductivity minimize charging effects, improving clarity and data consistency. This makes it a trusted choice for researchers and laboratory professionals looking to work with fine sample details.

Stable and Reliable Under Electron Beams

Manufactured using a vacuum deposition process on high-purity nickel grids, these films remain stable even under prolonged electron irradiation. The film thickness and robust mesh support both cryo and ambient temperature TEM work, ensuring thermal and mechanical stability across applications.

Practical Packaging and Storage

Each pack contains 50 circular grids, each 3.05 mm in diameter, delivered in dust-free, secure packaging. To maintain integrity and prevent contamination, grids should be stored in a dry, dust-free environment. Their indefinite shelf life ensures they remain ready-to-use for ongoing research needs.

FAQs of Lacey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Nickel (Pack of 50):

Q: How should I use Lacey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Nickel grids in TEM applications?

A: These grids are designed as specimen supports for Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). Place your sample on the lacey carbon film, allowing the high mesh nickel grid to provide mechanical support and enhance electrical conductivity, which is essential for imaging fine particles with minimal background.

Q: What are the benefits of using a lacey carbon film with a 400 mesh nickel grid?

A: The lacey pattern minimizes background interference, while the high-purity nickel grid offers excellent electrical conductivity, reducing charging and improving image quality. This combination supports high-resolution imaging of small or fragile particles in both room temperature and cryo TEM experiments.

Q: When should I choose these grids over other support films?

A: Opt for these grids when low background noise and enhanced conductivity are needed for high-resolution TEM imaging, particularly with fine, particulate, or delicate samples that benefit from the minimal support provided by a lacey carbon film.

Q: Where are these grids typically used most effectively?

A: Lacey Carbon Films on nickel grids are most effective in laboratory research settings requiring advanced TEM analysis, including materials science, nanotechnology, and biological specimen imaging.

Q: What process is used to manufacture the lacey carbon film on these grids?

A: The carbon film is applied via vacuum deposition directly onto the nickel grid, producing a thin, stable lacey pattern that is optimized for minimal background signal and robust electron beam stability.

Q: How should I store unused grids to maintain their quality?

A: To preserve their condition, store unused grids in a dry, dust-free environment. The packaging is designed to protect against contaminants, so reseal packs after use to ensure grids remain clean and ready for future experiments.

Q: Can these grids be reused, or are they single-use only?

A: These grids are intended for single use to maintain optimal film integrity and to prevent contamination or mechanical damage that could affect your TEM imaging results.
