Product Description

Holey carbon films have many uses in microscopy but for certain applications the mesh sizes of standard TEM grids are too large to support the sample. Continuous carbon films can also be a problem due to the fact that the thin film can inelastically scatter electrons and contribute to background noise. Holey carbon films therefore are a suitable alternative.
Holey carbon films have holes of various sizes up to 100m. In addition to providing support, the increased image contrast in the regions of the holes compared to regions of film is also of benefit. Typical applications include biological and materials science and cryo-TEM.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.
Holey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Precision and Traceability with H7 Finder Grids

These grids feature a standard 7-square index finder pattern with clear alphanumeric designations, facilitating accurate sample localization. Researchers can easily mark, revisit, and share sample positions, enhancing reproducibility and data management. Such traceability is invaluable for collaborative studies and data integrity in electron microscopy workflows.

Optimized for High-Resolution TEM Imaging

The holey carbon film offers irregular holes that increase imaging contrast by suspending samples across the holes. The ultra-clean, ~20 nm film thickness minimizes background signal and allows for clear visualization of fine structures. This makes these grids ideal for biological specimens, nanoparticles, and material science applications requiring exceptional clarity.

Simple Handling and Long-Term Storage

These grids are robust yet fragile. Use antistatic tweezers and gentle handling to avoid damaging the delicate carbon film. Grids are supplied clean and ready for immediate use. When stored in a clean, dry environment, they retain performance indefinitelyeliminating the worry of degradation or contamination over time.

FAQs of Holey Carbon Films on H7 Finder Grids Copper (Pack of 50):

Q: How should I handle the holey carbon films on H7 Finder Grids to prevent damage?

A: Due to the delicate nature of the ~20 nm thick carbon film, handle the grids exclusively with antistatic tweezers and avoid direct contact with fingers. Gently grasp the edge of the copper grid to minimize risk of puncturing or tearing the film.

Q: What is the main benefit of using H7 Finder Grids with a holey carbon film in TEM?

A: These grids provide indexed sampling locations for accurate tracking and retrieval of sample areas. The holey carbon film structure facilitates improved imaging by supporting samples in suspension and reducing background signal, leading to clearer TEM images.

Q: Where can these grids be stored, and what is their shelf life?

A: Store the grids in a clean, dry environment away from dust and contaminants. When kept under these conditions, their shelf life is indefinite, allowing long-term storage without loss of quality.

Q: What applications are these Holey Carbon Finder Grids especially suited for?

A: These grids are primarily used as sample supports for high-resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Electron Microscopy (EM) studies, including biological, material, and nano-scale specimen analysis.

Q: When are these grids ready for use, and is any pre-treatment necessary?

A: The grids are supplied clean, with minimal contamination, and are ready for use upon opening. No additional pre-treatment is typically required prior to sample deposition.

Q: What is the process for sample mounting on these grids?

A: Place your specimen onto the holey carbon film surface using a micropipette or fine applicator. Allow the sample to dry (or follow your standard protocol) before loading into the TEM. Care during mounting helps maintain grid integrity.

Q: How compatible are these grids with different TEM holders and instruments?

A: With their standard 3.05 mm diameter and EM grade specification, these grids are compatible with most common TEM holders and electron microscopes worldwide.
