Product Description

Lacey carbon films are similar to the holey carbon films in that they have open areas but because of the fine lacey mesh structure they offer a greater percentage of open area in comparison (see micrograph). They provide the thinnest possible support film while maintaining adequate strength and give practically no background interference in the TEM. As much of the specimen is unsupported, these films are appropriate for use where a structure free background is of importance. Lacey carbon films are particularly suitable for studying some nanotubes, acicular crystals and biological/materials specimens.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.
Lacey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Exceptional Structural Support for TEM Imaging

The interconnected lacey carbon pattern provides reliable specimen support and exceptional electron transparency, facilitating high-contrast, high-resolution imaging. As the film is non-porous and hydrophobic, it reduces specimen drift and contamination, making it ideal for demanding research environments.

Precision-Engineered 200 Mesh Gold Grid

Each grid is fabricated from high-purity gold featuring a standard 200 mesh and a grid diameter of 3.05 mm. Gold provides superior chemical resistance and structural stability, enabling consistent performance during transmission electron microscopy. The grid ensures compatibility with standard TEM holders.

Suitable for a Broad Range of Applications

Lacey Carbon Films on gold grids are optimized for conventional and cryo-TEM applications, particularly where specimen integrity and resolution are paramount. Their stability and compatibility make them suitable for research labs, educational institutions, and industrial analysis.

FAQs of Lacey Carbon Films on 200 Mesh Gold (Pack of 25):

Q: How should I handle the Lacey Carbon Films on 200 Mesh Gold Grids to prevent damage?

A: Handle the grids only with clean, anti-static tweezers and avoid direct contact with the thin carbon film. This helps prevent contamination, scratches, or film rupture, ensuring optimal performance during TEM imaging.

Q: What are the advantages of using lacey carbon film compared to other support films in TEM?

A: Lacey carbon films offer high electron transparency and minimal background, thanks to their interconnected lacey pattern. This design improves specimen support while enhancing contrast and resolution in TEM applications.

Q: When is it recommended to use Lacey Carbon Films on gold grids for TEM analysis?

A: Use these grids for high-resolution and cryo-TEM imaging when superior stability, minimal contamination, and electron transparency are crucialfor example, during the analysis of nanoparticles or fragile biological specimens.

Q: Where should I store unused Lacey Carbon Film grids for maximum shelf life?

A: Store the grids in a clean, dry environment at room temperature. Proper storage ensures their indefinite stability and preserves the integrity of the carbon films and gold mesh.

Q: What process should be followed for preparing specimens on these grids?

A: Specimens can be mounted onto the film using standard TEM preparation techniques. It is essential to avoid excessive humidity and mechanical stress, and to gently deposit the sample onto the lacey carbon areas without disturbing the film.

Q: How does the gold mesh benefit electron microscopy experiments?

A: The gold mesh provides excellent chemical resistance, reduced charging effects, and mechanical stability. This ensures reliable support for the carbon film and enhances TEM imaging by maintaining specimen integrity under the electron beam.

Q: What are the primary uses and benefits of these grids in laboratory settings?

A: These grids are mainly used as specimen supports in high-resolution TEM. Their high purity, stability, and standardized specifications provide consistent, reproducible results, making them indispensable for research, development, and educational labs.
