Product Description

Holey carbon films have many uses in microscopy but for certain applications the mesh sizes of standard TEM grids are too large to support the sample. Continuous carbon films can also be a problem due to the fact that the thin film can inelastically scatter electrons and contribute to background noise. Holey carbon films therefore are a suitable alternative.
Holey carbon films have holes of various sizes up to 100m. In addition to providing support, the increased image contrast in the regions of the holes compared to regions of film is also of benefit. Typical applications include biological and materials science and cryo-TEM.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.
Holey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Precision Support for Electron Microscopy

These holey carbon films on pure gold 400 mesh grids provide robust, reliable support for high-resolution electron microscopy. Optimized for specimen retention and contrast, the perforated carbon membrane enhances TEM and cryo-EM imaging, catering to demanding research environments. Their high purity and precise fabrication make them suitable for sensitive applications involving biological, material science, and nanotechnology specimens.

Engineered for Performance and Durability

Crafted with a film thickness of 1030 nm, these grids offer stability while minimizing background interference during analysis. The gold mesh ensures excellent conductivity and chemical resistance, while the carbon films ultra-clean surface is available in either hydrophobic or hydrophilic formats. Long-term shelf stability under recommended conditions further underscores their reliability in laboratory workflows.

FAQs of Holey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Gold (Pack of 25):

Q: How should Holey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Gold grids be handled to prevent contamination?

A: It is recommended to use anti-static tweezers and gloves when handling these grids. This prevents oils and particulates from contacting the ultra-clean surface, maintaining sample integrity during TEM analysis.

Q: What benefits does the pure gold (99.99%) mesh provide in these support films?

A: The pure gold mesh offers superior conductivity, chemical inertness, and mechanical stability. This helps reduce beam-induced motion and artifacts, ensuring high-resolution imaging and data accuracy in electron microscopy.

Q: When should I choose hydrophilic vs. hydrophobic surface finishes for these grids?

A: Select hydrophilic grids when working with aqueous solutions or biological specimens, as they improve specimen adhesion. Hydrophobic grids are suitable for applications requiring minimal interaction with water or polar solvents.

Q: Where can these grids be stored for long-term stability?

A: Store the grids in their original TEM grid storage box, placed in a clean, dust-free environment to ensure their ultra-clean surfaces and structural integrity remain uncompromised over time.

Q: What is the primary application of Holey Carbon Film on 400 Mesh Gold grids?

A: These grids serve as support membranes for specimens in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and cryo-EM, offering optimal conditions for imaging fine structural details in a variety of scientific samples.

Q: How compatible are these grids with different TEM holders and cryo-EM systems?

A: The 3.05 mm round grid format aligns with the standard required by most TEM holders and cryo-EM systems, making these grids widely compatible with modern electron microscopy equipment.

Q: What process is advised for preparing samples using these grids?

A: After selecting the appropriate hydrophobic or hydrophilic variant, mount your sample onto the grid using sterile, contamination-free techniques. Allow the sample to dry before transferring the grid into the electron microscope.
