Product Description

Holey carbon films have many uses in microscopy but for certain applications the mesh sizes of standard TEM grids are too large to support the sample. Continuous carbon films can also be a problem due to the fact that the thin film can inelastically scatter electrons and contribute to background noise. Holey carbon films therefore are a suitable alternative. Holey carbon films have holes of various sizes up to 100m. In addition to providing support, the increased image contrast in the regions of the holes compared to regions of film is also of benefit. Typical applications include biological and materials science and cryo-TEM.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.

Holey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Precision Support for Advanced Microscopy

Our holey carbon films on nickel grids deliver a robust and ultraclean support that enhances sample contrast and stability during transmission electron microscopy. The thin carbon film with randomly sized holes provides optimal electron transparency while ensuring minimal background noise, making these grids highly suitable for delicate biological and materials science specimens.

Convenient, Ready-to-Use Packaging

Packaged in an anti-static box with individual slots, each of the 50 grids is protected from contamination and mechanical damage. This packaging design allows users to handle the grids safely with tweezers and ensures that the product maintains its quality from delivery through storage and use.

High Compatibility and Versatility

These TEM grids are compatible with most standard electron microscopy holders. They can be plasma cleaned for sterilization and are insoluble in water or solvents, supporting a wide range of sample types. Their high purity and laboratory-grade standard make them a preferred choice for academic, industrial, and research applications.

FAQs of Holey Carbon Films on 200 Mesh Nickel (Pack of 50):

Q: How should I handle Holey Carbon Films on 200 Mesh Nickel grids to prevent damage?

A: It is recommended to use clean, fine-tipped tweezers when handling each grid to avoid damaging the delicate carbon film. Always hold grids by the edge and avoid direct contact with the film surface.

Q: What is the process of preparing these grids for use in TEM experiments?

A: The grids arrive ultraclean and ready-to-use. If further cleaning is required, they can be plasma cleaned for sterilization. Mount the grid onto your sample holder using compatible tools, ensuring you do not touch the film directly.

Q: When can I use these holey carbon grids in my workflow?

A: These grids can be used immediately after unpacking, as they are supplied in an ultraclean state. Ideal for researchers needing quick sample preparation with minimal pre-processing.

Q: Where should I store the grids to maximize their shelf life?

A: Store the grids in their original anti-static box in a dry, dust-free container to prevent contamination. Keep away from moisture, dust, and direct contact with chemicals to maintain their quality.

Q: What benefits do holey carbon films on nickel provide in electron microscopy?

A: They create a stable, low-background substrate with randomly sized holes, enhancing image clarity and resolution. The nickel mesh adds mechanical strength and chemical resistance, supporting a wider variety of specimens while maintaining minimal beam interference.

Q: How compatible are these grids with various electron microscopy holders?

A: These 200 mesh nickel grids, with a standard 3.05 mm diameter, are designed for broad compatibility with most commercial TEM holders, ensuring seamless integration into standard microscopy workflows.

Q: What are common uses for these holey carbon films in a laboratory setting?

A: They are primarily used for EM sample preparation and imaging, supporting biological, chemical, and materials science investigations where thin, electron-transparent support is essential.
