Product Description

Specimen Mounting Wax

Thermoplastic wax ideal for fixing ceramics, glasses and semiconductor materials to specimen mounts for grinding, dimpling or ion beam thinning. Two versions are available, one melting at 80°C (hard wax) and the other at 52°C (soft wax).

The sample holder is heated to just above the wax melting point, and a small amount of wax is placed on the surface. The sample can then be positioned on the thin film of molten wax and allowed to cool. The thin film of solidified wax is transparent and readily soluble in chloroform or warm acetone, facilitating easy sample removal.

Reliable Mounting Performance

This mounting wax offers a balanced medium hardness, ensuring precise fixation and optimal sectioning for various specimen types. Its compatibility with a broad range of laboratory reagents makes it a versatile solution for routine microtomy and histological preparations.

Safe and Convenient Packaging

Specimen Mounting Wax comes in robust 500 g or 1 kg packaging, with custom sizes available to suit your laboratorys needs. Its solid block or pellet form simplifies handling and storage, while the opaque appearance and slight waxy odor ensure straightforward identification during use.

Prolonged Shelf Life and Storage

With a minimum shelf life of two years, this wax remains effective when stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and open flames. Proper storage ensures consistent performance and safety, supporting continuity in laboratory operations.

FAQs of Specimen Mounting Wax:

Q: How should Specimen Mounting Wax be stored to ensure maximum shelf life?

A: To maintain the waxs effectiveness and ensure at least two years of shelf life, it should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and kept clear of any open flames due to its flammable nature.

Q: What is the typical application process for this mounting wax in histology?

A: The wax is melted (at its melting point of 55-65C) and used to fix biological specimens on microtome blocks or slides, providing stable support for sectioning and microscopy. Ensure to avoid overheating, as the wax may decompose above its melting range.

Q: When should this mounting wax be used during specimen preparation?

A: Specimen Mounting Wax is typically applied after the specimen has been embedded and before sectioning, acting as a support medium for precise slicing during microtomy in histology or pathology procedures.

Q: What laboratory reagents is this mounting wax compatible with?

A: This wax is fully compatible with all routine laboratory processing reagents, making it a versatile choice for laboratories following standard histological and pathological protocols.

Q: Where can this mounting wax be sourced and in what packaging sizes?

A: It is available through various laboratory supply channels in the United Kingdomincluding dealers, exporters, manufacturers, and retailers. Standard packaging includes 500 g and 1 kg sizes, with custom sizing available upon request.

Q: What are the key benefits of using this product for specimen mounting?

A: Key benefits include reliable medium hardness for sectioning, excellent reagent compatibility, non-poisonous nature, and ease of handling due to its solid form. Its consistent properties support quality results in histology and pathology workflows.
