Product Description

Quantifoil R3.5/1 Holey Carbon Films - Circular

Quantifoils, produced by semiconductor lithographic techniques, are 15 - 20nm thick perforated carbon films with precise, well defined hole sizes, shapes and arrays. Quantifoil support films provide a high percentage of open area in addition to minimising total specimen thickness. Object distortions arising from interactions with the support film are also reduced. They are particularly suited for cryo applications, tomography and low dose microscopy (LEEP).

Circular hole, size 3.5m dia, separation 1m, pitch 4.5m.

Quantifoil type: R3.5/1

Quantifoils are supplied as 10 grids in a grid box.

Precision Engineering for Optimal TEM Imaging

Quantifoil R3.5/1 films employ a precisely patterned hexagonal array of round holes, maximizing usable area and electron transparency. The regular geometry and thin film enhance sample adherence and minimize background noise, resulting in superior imaging quality.

Compatibility and Versatile Applications

Designed for broad compatibility, these holey carbon films support leading transmission electron microscopes (TEMs) and are suitable for cryo-EM, general life science research, and advanced materials science investigations. The copper or gold grids accommodate diverse experimental needs.

Handling and Storage Recommendations

To ensure integrity and performance, Quantifoil films should be handled with anti-static tools in a clean, dust-free environment. Storage at room temperature and dry conditions helps maintain the films high purity and structural consistency for reliable results.

FAQs of Quantifoil R3.5/1 Holey Carbon Films - Circular:

Q: How should I handle Quantifoil R3.5/1 Holey Carbon Films to prevent contamination or damage?

A: Handle these films using anti-static tools and work in a clean environment. Avoid touching the grids surface directly to maintain its purity and prevent mechanical damage.

Q: What applications benefit from using Quantifoil R3.5/1 films?

A: These support films are ideal for cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), life sciences research, and materials science studies, as they provide high transparency and minimal background interference for imaging delicate samples.

Q: When is surface treatment such as hydrophilization recommended?

A: Hydrophilization is recommended when preparing highly hydrated samples or when improved sample adhesion is necessary. It is available upon request to optimize the film surface for specific sample types.

Q: Where can Quantifoil R3.5/1 Holey Carbon Films be used?

A: These films are compatible with most TEM instruments, including FEI, JEOL, Zeiss, and Hitachi models, making them suitable for laboratories worldwide that engage in advanced electron microscopy.

Q: What process ensures the film remains uncontaminated during storage?

A: Store the grids in a dry, dust-free container at room temperature. Ensure the storage area is free of chemicals or vapors that could interact with the carbon film, preserving its purity.

Q: What are the benefits of using a perforated, holey carbon structure for TEM imaging?

A: The holey carbon design maximizes open area (7080%), enhances electron transparency, reduces background signal, and facilitates uniform specimen distribution, providing clear and detailed micrographs.
