Product Description

Quantifoil R2/4 Holey Carbon Films - Circular

Quantifoils, produced by semiconductor lithographic techniques, are 15 - 20nm thick perforated carbon films with precise, well defined hole sizes, shapes and arrays. Quantifoil support films provide a high percentage of open area in addition to minimising total specimen thickness. Object distortions arising from interactions with the support film are also reduced. They are particularly suited for cryo applications, tomography and low dose microscopy (LEEP).

Circular hole, size 2m dia, separation 4m

Quantifoil type: R2/4

Quantifoils are supplied as 10 grids or 100 grids in a grid box.

Precision Support for Electron Microscopy

The Quantifoil R2/4 Holey Carbon Films provide consistent specimen support for TEM, cryo-EM, and SEM systems. Each film delivers uniform hole size and array, facilitating even sample distribution and high imaging quality. Their optimal thickness and molecular purity support critical research in structural biology and material sciences, meeting strict laboratory standards.

Exceptional Chemical and Thermal Stability

Manufactured from high-purity carbon, these films withstand electron beam exposure, short autoclave cycles, most common solvents, and heat within application limits. The robust structure ensures reliable performance in demanding microscopy workflows, contributing to reproducible and clear imaging results.

Convenience and Compatibility

Packaged individually in secure grid boxes, the Quantifoil R2/4 films are easy to handle and implement in most laboratories. They are compatible with numerous microscopy platforms, supporting contemporary research needs and diverse sample types. Optional gold or nickel grids are available to match specific experiment requirements.

FAQs of Quantifoil R2/4 Holey Carbon Films - Circular:

Q: How should Quantifoil R2/4 Holey Carbon Films be stored for optimal shelf life?

A: Store the films in a dry, dust-free container at room temperature. When properly stored, they remain stable for over two years without compromising performance.

Q: What benefits does the R2/4 hole pattern offer for microscopy?

A: The R2/4 pattern, with 2 m diameter holes spaced 4 m center-to-center, provides excellent sample support and uniform ice thickness in cryo-EM, enabling high-resolution imaging and even specimen distribution.

Q: When should the surface be plasma treated before use?

A: Plasma treatment is recommended when a hydrophilic surface is needed, as the untreated film is hydrophobic. This process enhances sample adhesion and spreading for specific microscopy applications.

Q: Where can these grids be used besides TEM and cryo-TEM?

A: In addition to TEM and cryo-TEM, these grids are suitable for SEM and other forms of electron microscopy requiring stable specimen support and minimal background interference.

Q: What is the process for handling the grids before sample application?

A: Use clean forceps to handle the individually packed grids. If desired, perform plasma treatment, then mount the grid on the specimen holder before applying your sample, ensuring minimal contamination.

Q: What are the key advantages of using copper over gold or nickel grids?

A: Copper grids are standard due to cost-effectiveness and electrical conductivity. However, gold and nickel can be requested for specific experiments requiring enhanced chemical resistance or particular imaging conditions.
