Product Description

Quantifoil R2/2 Holey Carbon Films - Circular

Quantifoils®, produced by semiconductor lithographic techniques, are 15 - 20nm thick perforated carbon films with precise, well defined holesizes, shapes and arrays. Quantifoil support films provide a high percentage of open area in addition to minimising total specimen thickness. Object distortions arising from interactions with the support film are also reduced. They are particularly suited for cryo applications, tomography and low dose microscopy (LEEP). Circular, hole size 2µm dia, separation 2µm
Quantifoils are supplied as 10 grids or 100 grids in a grid box.

Exceptional Uniformity for High-Resolution TEM

Quantifoil R2/2 films ensure uniform support with a regular array of 2 m diameter holes and a consistent grid structure, designed specifically for high-resolution imaging. They minimize background signal and allow for optimal particle distribution, making them highly effective for both cryo-EM and negative staining applications. Their precise patterning contributes to reliable and reproducible microscopy results.

Flexible Material Options and Research Versatility

Available with copper, gold, or nickel TEM grids, Quantifoil R2/2 films accommodate various experimental requirements. Their amorphous carbon support is chemically inert, non-toxic, and compatible with most biological and material samples. These films commonly come in boxes of 10 or 50, catering to both small-scale and high-throughput research projects.

FAQs of Quantifoil R2/2 Holey Carbon Films - Circular:

Q: How are Quantifoil R2/2 Holey Carbon Films typically used in TEM or cryo-EM?

A: Quantifoil R2/2 Holey Carbon Films provide stable, low-background support for specimens analyzed under transmission electron microscopes. Their regular arrays of micrometer-sized holes enable ideal specimen distribution, particularly for cryo-electron microscopy and high-resolution structural analysis.

Q: What procedures should I follow to prepare these grids for sample loading?

A: Before use, grids may be glow-discharged to enhance hydrophilicity, promoting sample adherence. Handle using clean-room techniques, preferably with anti-static tweezers, and avoid direct contact with the carbon film to reduce contamination risks.

Q: When should I choose copper, gold, or nickel grids for my experiments?

A: Copper is generally used for standard imaging, gold is preferred for its inertness and reduced sample interactions, and nickel is chosen for compatibility with specific chemical environments. Your selection should depend on the experimental requirements and compatibility with your specimen.

Q: Where should I store Quantifoil Holey Carbon Films to maintain quality?

A: Store the grids in a cool, dry environment and keep them within their original packaging to prevent exposure to dust or humidity. This ensures the longevity and cleanliness of the carbon films.

Q: What are the main benefits of choosing Quantifoil R2/2 for cryo-EM work?

A: These films provide highly reproducible, consistently patterned supports, facilitating even sample distribution and minimizing background noise. This greatly benefits image clarity in high-resolution cryo-EM experiments.

Q: Are these support films compatible with water or common solvents?

A: No, Quantifoil R2/2 Holey Carbon Films are insoluble in water and most common solvents, ensuring stability during sample application and imaging workflows.
