Product Description

Lacey carbon films are similar to the holey carbon films in that they have open areas but because of the fine lacey mesh structure they offer a greater percentage of open area in comparison (see micrograph). They provide the thinnest possible support film while maintaining adequate strength and give practically no background interference in the TEM. As much of the specimen is unsupported, these films are appropriate for use where a structure free background is of importance. Lacey carbon films are particularly suitable for studying some nanotubes, acicular crystals and biological/materials specimens.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.
Lacey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Premium Quality for Advanced TEM Analysis

Engineered with high purity (>99.9%) gold mesh and lacey carbon film, these grids are designed for precise and contamination-free specimen preparation. Their robust structure and optimal conductivity deliver reliable support for electron diffraction and imaging, making them a trusted choice in research labs and universities.

Application Versatility Across Scientific Disciplines

Lacey Carbon Films on Gold support grids are widely used in biological and material sciences, offering a stable, inert platform for imaging delicate specimens. They accommodate a range of sample types and allow for high-contrast visualization, supporting advanced electron microscopy workflows and facilitating breakthrough discoveries.

FAQs of Lacey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Gold (Pack of 50):

Q: How should Lacey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Gold grids be stored to maintain their quality?

A: These grids should be stored in a clean, dry environment, ideally within a dust-free desiccator. Proper storage ensures their hydrophobic surface and structural integrity are preserved, allowing for indefinite shelf life.

Q: What is the process to make these grids hydrophilic for sample preparation?

A: The lacey carbon film is hydrophobic as supplied, but its surface can be rendered hydrophilic by using a glow discharge treatment. This process makes it more suitable for aqueous sample application, facilitating uniform specimen spreading.

Q: When are Lacey Carbon Films on gold grids typically used in laboratory settings?

A: They are mainly utilized during specimen preparation for Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) when high resolution and minimal background interference are essentialcommon in research involving biological tissues, nanoparticles, and advanced materials.

Q: Where are these TEM support grids compatible for use?

A: These grids are designed for compatibility with standard TEM holders, making them suitable for most transmission electron microscopes used in academic, industrial, and clinical research laboratories.

Q: What are the key benefits of using gold mesh grids with lacey carbon film?

A: The combination provides superior conductivity, chemical inertness, and mechanical stability. Gold mesh grids also reduce sample charging and support high-purity, artifact-free imaging, essential for reliable particle analysis and electron diffraction studies.

Q: How can the durability and performance of the grids be preserved during use?

A: Always handle the grids with clean, antistatic tweezers in a cleanroom environment to prevent contamination or mechanical damage. Avoid prolonged exposure to humidity and store unused grids promptly after opening the pack.
