Product Description

Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 Holey Carbon Films - Circular

Quantifoils®, produced by semiconductor lithographic techniques, are 15 - 20nm thick perforated carbon films with precise, well defined hole sizes, shapes and arrays. Quantifoil support films provide a high percentage of open area in addition to minimising total specimen thickness. Object distortions arising from interactions with the support film are also reduced. They are particularly suited for cryo applications, tomography and low dose microscopy (LEEP).

Circular hole, size 1.2µm dia, separation 1.3µm, pitch 2.5µm

Quantifoil type: R1.2/1.3

Quantifoils are supplied as 10 grids or 100 grids in a grid box.

Superior Sample Support for TEM

The Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 grid provides a robust and electron transparent surface, essential for high-resolution TEM investigations. Its precisely arranged hole pattern effectively minimizes background noise, enhancing imaging contrast and reliability for demanding applications like cryo-EM and negative staining techniques.

Rigorous Quality and Traceability

Each batch of Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 grids is meticulously labeled to guarantee full traceability and consistent performance in laboratory settings. Vacuum-sealed packaging preserves surface quality and prevents contamination, ensuring sample integrity from storage through to analysis.

FAQs of Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 Holey Carbon Films - Circular:

Q: How should Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 Holey Carbon Films be handled to prevent damage?

A: Handle these grids using antistatic tweezers and avoid applying mechanical stress or bending the grid. This ensures the thin carbon film remains intact and electron transparent for optimal imaging results.

Q: What are the main benefits of using the R1.2/1.3 hole pattern in electron microscopy?

A: The precisely regular array of 1.2 m holes spaced 1.3 m apart reduces background signals and supports even sample distribution. This pattern enhances image clarity and provides reliable sample support for high-resolution TEM or cryo-EM investigations.

Q: Where can Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 grids be used?

A: These grids are versatile and primarily used in structural biology, nanomaterials research, protein imaging, and various electron microscopy applications in academic and industrial laboratories.

Q: What is the process for manufacturing Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 Holey Carbon Films?

A: The grids are coated by evaporating amorphous carbon onto a chosen metal base (copper, nickel, or gold), creating a regular array of circular holes with controlled thickness. Each batch receives precise labeling for quality assurance.

Q: When is it recommended to use vacuum-sealed packaging for these grids?

A: Vacuum-sealed packaging is essential during storage and transportation to maintain grid surface quality, prevent contamination, and preserve electron transparency prior to use in microscopy.

Q: What precautions should be taken during the usage of Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 grids?

A: Always store grids in dry, dust-free conditions to maintain integrity. Avoid exposure to solvents, excessive heat, or mechanical force to prevent film damage and preserve surface cleanliness.

Q: How does batch traceability benefit users of Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 grids?

A: Batch labeling enables researchers to reliably track grid quality and performance, facilitating consistent experimental outcomes and compliance with laboratory standards.
