Product Description

Holey carbon films have many uses in microscopy but for certain applications the mesh sizes of standard TEM grids are too large to support the sample. Continuous carbon films can also be a problem due to the fact that the thin film can inelastically scatter electrons and contribute to background noise. Holey carbon films therefore are a suitable alternative.
Holey carbon films have holes of various sizes up to 100m. In addition to providing support, the increased image contrast in the regions of the holes compared to regions of film is also of benefit. Typical applications include biological and materials science and cryo-TEM.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.
Holey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Precision Finder Grids for Streamlined TEM Navigation

H7 finder grids feature a clearly labeled finder pattern, facilitating easy and repeatable sample identification and navigation during high-resolution TEM analysis. The gold substrate and hydrophilic, holey carbon film support enable precise particle location, helping researchers achieve consistent and reliable results in complex sample imaging.

Highly Conductive and Durable Sample Support

The combination of high-purity gold grids and uniform perforated carbon film offers outstanding conductivity, durability, and minimal contamination. Designed for demanding electron microscopy environments, these grids maintain sample integrity and provide stable support for delicate nanomaterials across repeated imaging sessions.

FAQs of Holey Carbon Films on H7 Finder Grids Gold (Pack of 50):

Q: How are Holey Carbon Films on H7 Finder Grids Gold prepared for TEM analysis?

A: For optimal results, the hydrophilic carbon film may require glow discharge treatment prior to sample deposition. Each grid is individually packaged, minimizing contamination and facilitating easy handling during TEM sample preparation.

Q: What benefits do finder patterns provide in TEM applications?

A: The labeled H7 finder pattern enables precise sample location and navigation, allowing users to revisit specific positions on the grid, enhancing imaging workflow efficiency and reproducibility of analysis.

Q: When should a holey carbon film on a gold finder grid be used?

A: These grids are ideal when uniform particle distribution, low background imaging, and high mechanical stability are essential, particularly for high-resolution TEM studies, particle tracking, and nanomaterials evaluation.

Q: Where are these grids compatible within laboratory equipment?

A: The circular 3.05 mm diameter ensures compatibility with most standard TEM holders and instruments used in electron microscopy laboratories.

Q: What advantages does gold as a grid material offer over alternatives?

A: Gold grids provide superior conductivity, chemical stability, and minimal background noise, reducing charging artifacts and supporting accurate, high-resolution TEM imaging.

Q: How are the grids stored to maintain surface quality?

A: Store the grids in a dry, dust-free container at room temperature to preserve the hydrophilic surface and minimize contamination, ensuring consistent imaging performance.

Q: Can these grids be used with aqueous or solvent-based samples?

A: Yes, the insolubility of the carbon film and gold substrate in water and most solvents allows for a wide variety of sample types in TEM analysis, without risk of grid degradation or sample loss.
