Product Description

Holey carbon films have many uses in microscopy but for certain applications the mesh sizes of standard TEM grids are too large to support the sample. Continuous carbon films can also be a problem due to the fact that the thin film can inelastically scatter electrons and contribute to background noise. Holey carbon films therefore are a suitable alternative. Holey carbon films have holes of various sizes up to 100m. In addition to providing support, the increased image contrast in the regions of the holes compared to regions of film is also of benefit. Typical applications include biological and materials science and cryo-TEM.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.

Holey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Superior Sample Support for TEM

Our holey carbon film on nickel grids ensures optimal transmission electron microscopy (TEM) imaging by minimizing background and maximizing specimen visibility. The precise perforation aids in effective imaging of nanoparticles and delicate biological samples. The robust nickel mesh provides structural reliability and maintains the integrity of the thin carbon film under regular usage.

Strict Quality and Compatibility Standards

Manufactured to meet international microscopy supplies standards, these grids are compatible with most TEM holders. High-purity carbon (99.99%) and nickel provide a clean, minimal-contamination surface, with the structure designed for consistent performance in analytical and microscopy applications.

Convenient Handling and Long-Term Storage

Supplied in a pack of 25, the grids feature a long shelf life when stored in dry, dust-free conditions. Handling is safe with anti-static tweezers, and both nickel and carbon film are stable at high temperatures and are non-toxic, ensuring user confidence in laboratory environments.

FAQs of Holey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Nickel (Pack of 25):

Q: How should I handle Holey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Nickel grids to avoid contamination or damage?

A: Always use clean, anti-static tweezers to handle the grids, and avoid touching the delicate carbon film surface. Store them in a dry, dust-free environment to maintain their low background and prevent contamination.

Q: What types of samples benefit most from using these holey carbon film grids?

A: These grids are ideally suited for high-resolution TEM imaging of nanoparticles and biological samples, as the holey structure facilitates minimal background interference and supports specimen retention.

Q: When should I use a 400 mesh holey carbon grid instead of a continuous carbon film?

A: Use holey carbon grids when you require direct imaging over open holes for high-contrast, high-resolution TEM, especially for samples dispersed or deposited in solution, or for imaging structures that benefit from unsupported regions.

Q: Where can these grids be used in laboratory workflows?

A: These grids are intended for use in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) workflows for sample preparation, imaging, and analysis in research, quality control, or analytical laboratories.

Q: What is the typical process for preparing TEM samples with these grids?

A: Dispense or deposit your sample onto the holey carbon side, allow it to dry, and if necessary, perform staining or further treatments as per your experimental protocol before inserting into a TEM holder for imaging.

Q: What are the main benefits of using nickel mesh over copper or gold supports?

A: Nickel mesh offers enhanced mechanical strength, stability at elevated temperatures, and reduced likelihood of undesired interactions, especially for certain biological or reactive samples.

Q: How long can these grids be stored before use and how can I maintain their quality?

A: These grids are stable for long-term storage if kept dry and protected from dust and humidity. Ensuring storage in original containers at room temperature will preserve their pristine condition and performance for extended periods.
