Product Description

Quantifoil R3.5/1 Holey Carbon Films - Circular

Quantifoils®, produced by semiconductor lithographic techniques, are 15 - 20nm thick perforated carbon films with precise, well defined hole sizes, shapes and arrays. Quantifoil support films provide a high percentage of open area in addition to minimising total specimen thickness. Object distortions arising from interactions with the support film are also reduced. They are particularly suited for cryo applications, tomography and low dose microscopy (LEEP).

Circular hole, size 3.5µm dia, separation 1µm, pitch 4.5µm.

Quantifoil type: R3.5/1

Quantifoils are supplied as 10 grids in a grid box.

Consistent Quality for Advanced Electron Microscopy

Quantifoil R3.5/1 films are crafted to ensure minimal contamination and uniform surface quality, providing optimal conditions for precise electron microscopy studies. The carbon films high purity and controlled geometry facilitate robust imaging, essential for research in structural biology and materials science.

Versatile Support for Cryo-EM and TEM

These holey carbon films are compatible with a range of techniques, including Cryo-EM, TEM, and electron diffraction. Their stable grid structure and customizable mesh options allow users to select the optimal configuration for various analytical requirements and sample types.

Reliable Packaging and Long-Term Stability

Supplied in a grid box with a protective film, Quantifoil R3.5/1 maintains sample integrity during transport and storage. With a shelf life of several years under proper room temperature and dry conditions, researchers benefit from consistent performance over time.

FAQs of Quantifoil R3.5/1 Holey Carbon Films - Circular:

Q: How is the Quantifoil R3.5/1 Holey Carbon Film used in electron microscopy?

A: It acts as a support film for TEM and Cryo-EM specimens, allowing biological or material science samples to be mounted for high-resolution imaging and structural analysis.

Q: What are the benefits of the regular 3.5 m holes and 1 m spacing in the film?

A: The precisely patterned holes enhance image contrast in electron microscopy by minimizing background signal and supporting even sample distribution, crucial for accurate structural studies.

Q: When should I choose copper, gold, or nickel as the support grid material?

A: Copper is commonly used for routine imaging, gold offers enhanced chemical resistance for sensitive samples, and nickel provides additional mechanical stability. Your choice depends on your specimens requirements and experiment protocols.

Q: Where should Quantifoil grids be stored for optimal longevity?

A: They should be kept in a dry environment at room temperature, preferably in the supplied grid box with protective film, to avoid contamination and preserve their integrity for years.

Q: What process is involved in preparing samples on Quantifoil R3.5/1 grids for Cryo-EM?

A: Samples are typically applied in small drops to the grid, then blotted to create a thin layer, and rapidly vitrified before imaging. The film facilitates even sample spreading and rapid freezing, supporting high-quality data acquisition.

Q: Why are Quantifoil R3.5/1 films considered research grade?

A: They are manufactured to strict standards with greater than 99% purity, minimal contaminants, uniform thickness, and precise hole geometry, ensuring reliable results in demanding research applications.

Q: What compatibility advantages do Quantifoil R3.5/1 grids offer?

A: These grids work with techniques like Cryo-EM, TEM, and electron diffraction, making them highly versatile for specimen support in both biological and material science research.
