Product Description

Quantifoil R2/1 Holey Carbon Films - Circularn

Quantifoils®, produced by semiconductor lithographic techniques, are 15 - 20nm thick perforated carbon films with precise, well defined hole sizes, shapes and arrays. Quantifoil support films provide a high percentage of open area in addition to minimising total specimen thickness. Object distortions arising from interactions with the support film are also reduced. They are particularly suited for cryo applications, tomography and low dose microscopy (LEEP).

Circular hole, size 2µm dia, separation 1µm, pitch 3µm.

Quantifoil type: R 2/1

Quantifoils are supplied as 10 grids or 100 grids in a grid box.

Precision-Engineered for Cryo-EM and TEM

Quantifoil R2/1 Holey Carbon Films are meticulously crafted to offer uniform hole sizes and spacing, essential for high-resolution imaging in cryogenic and traditional electron microscopy. The regular pattern supports even sample distribution and minimizes background noise, contributing to enhanced data quality and reproducibility in research.

Reliable Support with High Purity Materials

Constructed using high purity carbon on a robust copper grid, these films ensure optimal mechanical stability and electron transparency. The approximately 12 nm thick carbon film supports sensitive specimens without interfering with image clarity, making it suitable for demanding laboratory workflows.

Convenient and Ready-to-Use Packaging

Each Quantifoil grid is individually boxed for protection against contamination and physical damage. Delivered pre-cleaned, they are immediately ready for sample preparation, saving users valuable time in busy lab settings. Proper storage at room temperature in a dry environment can extend shelf life beyond two years.

FAQs of Quantifoil R2/1 Holey Carbon Films - Circularn:

Q: How do I prepare samples using Quantifoil R2/1 Holey Carbon Films?

A: To prepare samples, mount your biological or material specimen onto the carbon surface of the Quantifoil grid using standard TEM or cryo-EM protocols. The pre-cleaned, ready-to-use film ensures minimal contamination and uniform sample distribution across the regular hole pattern.

Q: What are the benefits of using Quantifoil R2/1 over other support films?

A: Quantifoil R2/1 provides consistent hole size and spacing (2 m diameter, 1 m spacing), ensuring reproducible imaging results. Its high-purity carbon construction offers excellent electron transparency and mechanical strength, making it ideal for high-resolution electron microscopy applications.

Q: When should I use holey carbon films over continuous carbon films?

A: Holey carbon films are preferred for applications such as cryo-EM, where high image contrast and lower background noise are crucial. The regular holes facilitate improved imaging of vitrified samples, as opposed to continuous films, which are used when uninterrupted support is needed.

Q: Where can I use Quantifoil R2/1 grids?

A: These grids are suitable for most transmission electron microscopes, including those used for TEM and cryo-EM. Their universal 3.05 mm diameter and copper grid compatibility make them adaptable for various laboratory setups worldwide.

Q: What is the process for storing Quantifoil R2/1 grids?

A: Grids should be kept in their individual boxes and stored in a room temperature, dry environment to maintain quality. Avoid moisture to prevent oxidation and contamination, ensuring optimal performance over their two-year shelf life.

Q: How are Quantifoil R2/1 films packaged and shipped?

A: Each grid is individually boxed to protect from physical damage and contamination during transit. This packaging allows safe shipping as well as practical storage and handling in laboratory environments.
