Product Description

Quantifoil R2/1 Holey Carbon Films - Circular

Quantifoils®, produced by semiconductor lithographic techniques, are 15 - 20nm thick perforated carbon films with precise, well defined hole sizes, shapes and arrays. Quantifoil support films provide a high percentage of open area in addition to minimising total specimen thickness. Object distortions arising from interactions with the support film are also reduced. They are particularly suited for cryo applications, tomography and low dose microscopy (LEEP).

Circular hole, size 2µm dia, separation 1µm, pitch 3µm.

Quantifoil type: R 2/1

Quantifoils are supplied as 10 grids or 100 grids in a grid box.

Designed for Precision in EM Imaging

Quantifoil R2/1 grids offer a meticulously patterned, holey carbon film supported on copper for superior image consistency in both cryo-EM and TEM. Their regular R2/1 array aids in quantifiable sample placement, while the grids ultrathin carbon enhances contrast and resolution, facilitating structural biology workflows.

Optimized Surface for Sample Adherence

After glow-discharge treatment, the hydrophilic nature of Quantifoils carbon film enables optimal wetting and sample spread. This process ensures even distribution of biological specimens, reducing aggregation and improving imaging reliability in delicate cryo-EM preparations.

Customizable Mesh Sizes for Versatile Use

Available in 200 mesh, 300 mesh, or by specification, Quantifoil R2/1 Holey Carbon Films can be tailored to different experimental demands. Whether for routine TEM or advanced Cryo-EM, researchers can select grids matching their protocol requirements to maximize imaging quality.

FAQs of Quantifoil R2/1 Holey Carbon Films - Circular:

Q: How do I prepare Quantifoil R2/1 grids for cryo-electron microscopy applications?

A: To prepare Quantifoil R2/1 grids for cryo-EM, perform glow-discharge treatment to render the carbon film surface hydrophilic, enhancing sample adherence. Handle grids with care using tweezers, then apply the biological specimen before plunge-freezing for optimal sample distribution and imaging.

Q: What is the primary benefit of using Quantifoil R2/1 Holey Carbon Films in TEM or Cryo-EM?

A: The main benefit is consistent support with a regular array of micron-scale holes that improves particle distribution and contrast, facilitating high-resolution structural studies in TEM and cryo-EM analyses.

Q: When should I choose gold or nickel grids instead of the standard copper material?

A: Gold or nickel grids may be selected when experiments require higher chemical resistance, reduced background signal, or compatibility with specific sample conditions. Standard copper is suitable for most routine imaging needs.

Q: Where are Quantifoil R2/1 grids stored to maintain their quality?

A: Store Quantifoil R2/1 grids in a dry, dust-free environment at room temperature to prevent contamination and preserve their ultrathin carbon film integrity.

Q: What mesh sizes are available for Quantifoil R2/1 Holey Carbon Films?

A: They are available in standard 200 and 300 mesh sizes, with options for custom mesh configurations to accommodate unique research needs.

Q: Is autoclaving recommended for sterilizing Quantifoil R2/1 grids?

A: No, Quantifoil R2/1 grids are not compatible with autoclaving and are supplied non-sterile. Sterilization can be performed by glow-discharge or plasma cleaning if required for biological samples.

Q: What applications are Quantifoil R2/1 grids compatible with?

A: Quantifoil R2/1 grids are routinely used in cryo-electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and structural biology sample preparation, providing reliable support for high-resolution imaging.
