Product Description

Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 Holey Carbon Films - Circular

Quantifoils, produced by semiconductor lithographic techniques, are 15 - 20nm thick perforated carbon films with precise, well defined hole sizes, shapes and arrays. Quantifoil support films provide a high percentage of open area in addition to minimising total specimen thickness. Object distortions arising from interactions with the support film are also reduced. They are particularly suited for cryo applications, tomography and low dose microscopy (LEEP).

Circular hole, size 1.2µm dia, separation 1.3µm, pitch 2.5µm

Quantifoil type: R1.2/1.3

Quantifoils are supplied as 10 grids or 100 grids in a grid box.

Optimized Structure and Material

Each Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 grid features a precision-perforated carbon film on a metallic support grid, offering remarkable uniformity and stability. The regular pattern of 1.2 m holes ensures reproducible imaging conditions, while the amorphous carbon surface enhances sample adherence and distribution, essential for high-quality electron microscopy.

Compatible with Advanced Microscopy Techniques

Designed for use in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), the Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 can accommodate diverse sample types. Its electron transparency facilitates high contrast and structural analysis, making it suitable for cutting-edge research in biology, materials science, and nanotechnology fields.

Packaging and Shelf Life for Reliability

Grids are supplied in anti-static boxes containing multiple units, ensuring safe handling and long-term preservation. With indefinite shelf life under dry, dust-free storage, users can rely on the Quantifoil grids to maintain optimal surface quality and performance over time.

FAQs of Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 Holey Carbon Films - Circular:

Q: How should Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 Holey Carbon Films be stored for maximum shelf life?

A: Store the grids in their original anti-static packaging under dry, dust-free conditions to preserve their amorphous, hydrophilic surface and electron transparency. Proper storage ensures indefinite shelf life and sustained usability for microscopy applications.

Q: What is the process for preparing samples with Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 grids?

A: To prepare samples, mount the grid onto a TEM or cryo-EM holder, deposit your specimen onto the hydrophilic side, and allow it to adhere and air dry or vitrify as appropriate. The regular perforation pattern supports even distribution, making sample preparation efficient and reproducible.

Q: When are Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 grids particularly beneficial for microscopy?

A: These grids are highly beneficial when imaging small, fragile, or hydrophilic samples in structural biology, materials science, or nanotechnology. Their regular mesh and electron transparency enhance resolution and contrast, especially in high-precision TEM or cryo-EM studies.

Q: Where are Quantifoil R1.2/1.3 Holey Carbon Films commonly used?

A: They are commonly employed in research laboratories, universities, and industry settings where advanced TEM and cryo-EM analysis is performedpredominantly in the United Kingdom and internationally by microscopy professionals.

Q: What benefits do Quantifoil grids offer compared to traditional support films?

A: Quantifoil grids provide superior uniformity, hydrophilic surfaces, and electron transparency, leading to higher image quality and better sample preservation. Their ultrapure carbon composition (>99.99%) and optimized mesh maximize performance in demanding microscopy tasks.

Q: How are the hole size and interhole distance advantageous for sample analysis?

A: The 1.2 m hole size and 1.3 m interhole distance allow effective sample suspension and enhance imaging resolution by reducing background noise, facilitating clearer observation of even delicate molecular structures.
