Product Description

Lacey carbon films are similar to the holey carbon films in that they have open areas but because of the fine lacey mesh structure they offer a greater percentage of open area in comparison (see micrograph). They provide the thinnest possible support film while maintaining adequate strength and give practically no background interference in the TEM. As much of the specimen is unsupported, these films are appropriate for use where a structure free background is of importance. Lacey carbon films are particularly suitable for studying some nanotubes, acicular crystals and biological/materials specimens.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.

Lacey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Engineered for Precision Imaging

The 400 Mesh Copper Grids with lacey carbon film offer a well-balanced substrate that supports even the most delicate samples, enabling high-contrast imaging under a TEM. Their dense mesh structure with electron-transparent film ensures minimal interference, making them essential for nanoparticle and biological specimen analysis.

Easy Handling and Storage

Each grid is individually inspected and must be handled carefully: use fine-tip anti-static tweezers and grip at the edge to avoid rupturing the carbon film. For best performance, store the grids in clean, dry, dust-free containers to preserve film quality and avoid contamination or moisture exposure.

FAQs of Lacey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Copper Grids (Pack of 25):

Q: How should I handle Lacey Carbon Films on 400 Mesh Copper Grids to prevent film damage?

A: Always use fine-tip anti-static tweezers to grip the grid only at its edge. Avoid touching or applying pressure to the carbon film, as it is extremely fragile and can rupture easily.

Q: What types of samples are best suited for these lacey carbon TEM grids?

A: These grids are optimal for supporting biological specimens, nanoparticles, and other fine particulate samples, owing to their open mesh structure and electron transparency, making them ideal for high-resolution TEM imaging applications.

Q: When is it necessary to use a lacey carbon film instead of a continuous carbon film on TEM grids?

A: Use a lacey carbon film when you require minimal film background, enhanced imaging of small or isolated particles, or the analysis of unsupported thin structures. Their discontinuous nature offers more unobstructed viewing through mesh openings.

Q: Where should I store these grids for maximum shelf life and quality retention?

A: Store the grids in a clean, dry, and dust-free container. Avoid exposure to moisture and contamination to maintain their pristine condition. When properly stored, their shelf life is effectively unlimited.

Q: What benefits does a 400 mesh copper grid provide in conjunction with lacey carbon film?

A: A 400 mesh grid delivers high structural stability and numerous sampling sites per grid. Combined with the lacey carbon film, it provides a balance between robust support and electron transparency, essential for detailed microscale examinations.

Q: What is the standard process to prepare these grids for TEM sample mounting?

A: After selecting a grid, use anti-static tweezers to handle it at the rim. Mount your sample gently onto the carbon-coated mesh, ensuring that it rests securely in the mesh openings before transferring the grid into the TEM holder.

Q: What assurances of quality do these TEM grids offer?

A: Each grid in the pack is individually inspected under an optical microscope to ensure film integrity and uniformity. This process guarantees that only high-quality, defect-free grids are supplied for precise laboratory research.
