Product Description

Lacey carbon films are similar to the holey carbon films in that they have open areas but because of the fine lacey mesh structure they offer a greater percentage of open area in comparison (see micrograph). They provide the thinnest possible support film while maintaining adequate strength and give practically no background interference in the TEM. As much of the specimen is unsupported, these films are appropriate for use where a structure free background is of importance. Lacey carbon films are particularly suitable for studying some nanotubes, acicular crystals and biological/materials specimens.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.

Lacey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Exceptional Support for TEM Specimens

Lacey carbon films on 200 mesh copper grids offer a reliable substrate for TEM sample preparation. The lacey structure provides versatile specimen support, suitable for both particulate and delicate samples. Its high uniformity and minimal contamination are crucial for obtaining accurate electron microscopy images.

Superior Material and Construction

Each grid is made of copper, coated with high-purity lacey carbon film, ensuring low contaminant levels. With a film thickness of 1030 nm, these grids are engineered to withstand handling under ambient laboratory conditions when using clean, non-abrasive tools. Their build aligns with rigorous electron microscopy standards.

Ease of Handling and Storage

Grids should be managed with non-abrasive, clean instruments due to their electrostatic sensitivity. Store them in a dry and clean environment for optimal longevity and performance. Their insolubility and resistance to high temperatures make them highly durable under TEM operational settings.

FAQs of Lacey Carbon Films on 200 Mesh Copper Grids (Pack of 25):

Q: How should Lacey Carbon Films on 200 mesh copper grids be handled during specimen preparation?

A: Handle these grids using clean, non-abrasive tools such as specialized tweezers. Avoid touching the surface directly to prevent contamination and damage, as the grids are electrostatically sensitive.

Q: What is the main benefit of using lacey carbon films for TEM analysis?

A: Lacey carbon films provide an optimal support for delicate and particulate samples, ensuring minimal background interference and enabling clearer, high-resolution TEM images due to their high uniformity and purity.

Q: When are these grids typically used in laboratory processes?

A: These grids are commonly employed during the preparation of samples for Transmission Electron Microscopy. They are especially useful when studying nanoparticles, biological specimens, or other samples requiring stable, low-background support.

Q: Where should I store Lacey Carbon Films on copper grids to maintain their quality?

A: Store the grids in a clean, dry place at ambient conditions. A dust-free container or desiccator is recommended to prevent contamination and preserve the integrity of the carbon film.

Q: What are the physical dimensions and mesh size of these copper grids?

A: These grids are designed with a standard TEM diameter of 3.05 mm and a 200 mesh size, providing an optimal balance between sample support and open area for electron transmission.

Q: Can the lacey carbon films withstand exposure to water, solvents, or high temperatures?

A: The films are insoluble in water and common solvents, and the carbon film sublimes only at temperatures above 3600C, ensuring durability under typical laboratory conditions.

Q: What are the advantages of the high purity and minimal contaminant design of these grids?

A: High purity and minimal contaminants reduce background noise in TEM analysis, improving image quality and enabling more accurate characterization of specimens.
