Product Description

Holey carbon films have many uses in microscopy but for certain applications the mesh sizes of standard TEM grids are too large to support the sample. Continuous carbon films can also be a problem due to the fact that the thin film can inelastically scatter electrons and contribute to background noise. Holey carbon films therefore are a suitable alternative.
Holey carbon films have holes of various sizes up to 100m. In addition to providing support, the increased image contrast in the regions of the holes compared to regions of film is also of benefit. Typical applications include biological and materials science and cryo-TEM.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.
Holey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Precision Sample Localization

The H7 finder grids indexed design permits accurate localization of regions of interest, streamlining repeat imaging and enabling meticulous specimen analysis. Researchers benefit from reduced search times during sample screening and enhanced workflow efficiency in high-resolution electron microscopy studies.

High Imaging Contrast and Stability

The holey carbon film mounted on pure gold grids delivers exceptional contrast and minimal background noise for TEM imaging. With stability against electron beam irradiation, these grids support reliable, reproducible imaging performance over extended use, maintaining data integrity in demanding research environments.

Material Quality and Shelf Life

Constructed from high purity gold and carbon, each grid is research grade and meets standard requirements for EM sample preparation. With a shelf life exceeding two years when stored correctly, users gain ongoing confidence in product consistency and preservation, ensuring readiness for immediate use.

FAQs of Holey Carbon Films on H7 Finder Grids Gold (Pack of 25):

Q: How do the H7 Finder Grids improve TEM specimen localization?

A: The H7 Finder grids are indexed, allowing easy identification and precise navigation to specific sample areas during TEM analysis. This indexing simplifies the process of locating and revisiting features of interest, enhancing experimental repeatability.

Q: What is the typical hole size and thickness of the holey carbon film?

A: The holey carbon film features holes typically 12 m in diameter and has an average thickness of approximately 1030 nanometers, providing optimal support and contrast for transmission electron microscopy samples.

Q: When should these grids be used for sample preparation?

A: These grids are best employed during the preparation of TEM samples that require high-resolution imaging, low background, high electrical conductivity, and reproducible localizationideal for detailed material science, biological, and nanotechnology research.

Q: Where should the grids be stored to maintain their quality?

A: To preserve their condition, store the grids in a clean, dry environment at room temperature. Proper storage ensures a shelf life of over two years and prevents contamination or degradation of the carbon film and gold grid.

Q: What are the main benefits of using pure gold grids with holey carbon film?

A: Pure gold grids provide high electrical conductivity and chemical inertness, while the holey carbon film offers high imaging contrast and minimal background. Together, they support stability under electron irradiation and suit demanding high-resolution TEM applications.

Q: How compatible are these grids with different TEM holders?

A: These grids are designed to be compatible with most standard TEM holders, ensuring broad applicability in various laboratory equipment setups and seamless integration into existing workflows.

Q: Can the surface properties of the carbon film be modified?

A: Yes, the carbon film is inherently hydrophilic but can be made hydrophobic upon request, accommodating specific sample preparation requirements for diverse research applications.
