Product Description

Holey carbon films have many uses in microscopy but for certain applications the mesh sizes of standard TEM grids are too large to support the sample. Continuous carbon films can also be a problem due to the fact that the thin film can inelastically scatter electrons and contribute to background noise. Holey carbon films therefore are a suitable alternative. Holey carbon films have holes of various sizes up to 100m. In addition to providing support, the increased image contrast in the regions of the holes compared to regions of film is also of benefit. Typical applications include biological and materials science and cryo-TEM.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.

Holey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Superior Support for High-Resolution TEM Imaging

These holey carbon films on nickel grids provide robust support for biological specimens and materials studies. With uniform mesh and an optimal carbon film thickness, the grids facilitate clear imaging and reliable sample mounting, ideal for high-resolution electron microscopy analyses.

Consistent Quality for Research Applications

Our grids are manufactured to meet strict laboratory standards, ensuring high purity and consistency across batches. Their chemical stability and thermal resistance make them suitable for demanding TEM procedures, supporting your research integrity.

Safe Handling and Storage Recommendations

To keep the grids in pristine condition, handle only with clean tweezers and avoid bending the mesh. Store in a dry, dust-free environment to retain film quality and usability indefinitely, since the product does not degrade over time if properly managed.

FAQs of Holey Carbon Films on 300 Mesh Nickel (Pack of 50):

Q: How should Holey Carbon Films on 300 Mesh Nickel grids be handled during sample preparation?

A: Always use clean tweezers to avoid damaging the hydrophobic carbon film, and ensure you do not bend the grid, as the thin films are delicate. Handle in a clean environment to prevent contamination.

Q: What makes these grids suitable for TEM applications in biological and materials research?

A: The high-purity holey carbon film offers a consistent support structure ideal for various samples. Their compatibility with both biological and materials science TEM applications ensures clear imaging without introducing significant background artifacts.

Q: When is it necessary to glow discharge the surface of these grids?

A: Glow discharging is recommended when increased hydrophilicity is desired, typically prior to mounting aqueous or sensitive biological samples, as the as-supplied grids are hydrophobic.

Q: Where should these grids be stored for optimal longevity?

A: Store the grids in a dry, dust-free environment to prevent moisture or particle contamination; under proper conditions, the shelf life is indefinite.

Q: What is the best process for preparing TEM samples with these grids?

A: Place your sample on the holey carbon side of the grid, ensuring minimal handling. After sample application, allow to dry as necessary and load into the TEM grid holder for imaging.

Q: What are the main benefits of using nickel-supported holey carbon films compared to other grid types?

A: Nickels high melting point and durability provide stable support for carbon films, while the holey structure reduces background and enhances high-resolution TEM imaging. This combination offers improved reliability and clarity in analytical work.
