Product Description

Holey carbon films have many uses in microscopy but for certain applications the mesh sizes of standard TEM grids are too large to support the sample. Continuous carbon films can also be a problem due to the fact that the thin film can inelastically scatter electrons and contribute to background noise. Holey carbon films therefore are a suitable alternative.
Holey carbon films have holes of various sizes up to 100m. In addition to providing support, the increased image contrast in the regions of the holes compared to regions of film is also of benefit. Typical applications include biological and materials science and cryo-TEM.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.
Holey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Exceptional Imaging Support for TEM Analysis

Designed for demanding electron microscopy applications, these holey carbon films on gold grids provide exceptional sample support while maintaining ultra-high transparency for electrons. The random hole distribution enables suspended regions, essential for imaging fine details in biological and materials science specimens. Their ultrathin structure minimizes sample background, maximizing image quality.

Reliable, Ultra-Pure Materials for Maximum Performance

Manufactured from pure carbon film supported by a 300 mesh gold grid, these grids meet EM-grade standards. The gold is >99.99% pure, delivering high electrical conductivity and chemical resistance. The carbon film, with neutrality and non-poisonous characteristics, is ideal for delicate samples, and the supplied grids are particle-free for immediate use, ensuring consistent, reproducible results.

FAQs of Holey Carbon Films on 300 Mesh Gold (Pack of 50):

Q: How should I handle and store the holey carbon films on gold grids?

A: It is recommended to use fine forceps when handling the grids to prevent damage to the ultrathin carbon film. Store the grids in a dry, dust-free environment at room temperature to maintain their cleanliness and integrity.

Q: What are the main benefits of using holey carbon films on 300 mesh gold grids for TEM?

A: These grids provide excellent electron transparency due to the ultrathin carbon film with nanoscale holes, maximizing visibility of samples. The gold support ensures mechanical stability, superior conductivity, and chemical inertness, reducing contamination and sample drift during imaging.

Q: When should I choose holey carbon films over other TEM support films?

A: Holey carbon films are ideal when you require areas with suspended membranes and minimal background, particularly for high-resolution imaging of nanoparticles, biological, or materials science specimens where pristine imaging conditions are critical.

Q: Where can I use these grids, and are they compatible with all TEM/STEM holders?

A: These grids are compatible with most standard TEM and STEM holders, designed for use in laboratories, research institutes, and universities performing advanced electron microscopy studies.

Q: What is the process for mounting samples onto the grids?

A: Samples are generally deposited directly onto the ultrathin carbon film using fine tools. The holey structure allows sections to be suspended across holes, optimizing imaging conditions for electron_transparent regions.

Q: What precautions should I take to avoid damaging the carbon film?

A: Avoid touching the carbon film directly and use only fine forceps on the edge of the grid. Handle with gentle pressure and keep away from moisture and dust to preserve the films integrity.

Q: What purity and standards do these grids meet?

A: The gold grids are >99.99% pure, and the product meets all EM microscopy standards, providing ultra-high purity and consistent, reproducible results for laboratory work in the United Kingdom and worldwide.
