Product Description

Holey carbon films have many uses in microscopy but for certain applications the mesh sizes of standard TEM grids are too large to support the sample. Continuous carbon films can also be a problem due to the fact that the thin film can inelastically scatter electrons and contribute to background noise. Holey carbon films therefore are a suitable alternative.
Holey carbon films have holes of various sizes up to 100m. In addition to providing support, the increased image contrast in the regions of the holes compared to regions of film is also of benefit. Typical applications include biological and materials science and cryo-TEM.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.
Holey carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Advanced Structure for Superior Imaging

The holey carbon film structure offers random perforations, increasing electron transparency and reducing background noise in TEM imaging. This intricate design is particularly suited to the detailed observation of nanoscale materials, biological specimens, or cryogenic samples, providing clear, high-contrast results for advanced research applications.

High Purity Gold Mesh for Stability

Each grid features a 99.99% pure gold mesh, supporting analytical and laboratory-grade performance. Gold provides an inert, stable substrate that resists corrosion and mechanical deformation, contributing to reliable sample preparation and long-term storage in demanding laboratory environments.

Ready-to-Use and Customizable

Supplied plasma-cleaned and packaged in an anti-static storage box, these grids minimize contamination and ensure immediate usability. An optional hydrophilic treatment is available upon request, catering to specific experimental protocols. Careful handling with anti-static tweezers is recommended to maintain film integrity.

FAQs of Holey Carbon Films on 200 Mesh Gold (Pack of 50):

Q: How should Holey Carbon Films on 200 Mesh Gold grids be handled during preparation?

A: As these grids are sensitive to mechanical deformation, it is essential to use anti-static tweezers and gentle handling techniques during preparation to prevent damage to the thin carbon film.

Q: What are the advantages of using holey carbon films on gold grids in TEM applications?

A: The random perforations in the holey carbon film enhance electron transparency, enabling high-contrast imaging for biological materials, cryo-TEM, and nanoscale samples, while the gold grid ensures chemical inertness and mechanical stability.

Q: When is it recommended to request hydrophilic treatment for these TEM grids?

A: Hydrophilic treatment is advisable when your samples require improved wettability, such as with aqueous or biological specimens, to ensure even sample distribution on the grid surface.

Q: Where should these grids be stored to maintain their integrity?

A: Store the grids in a clean, dry environment within their anti-static storage box to protect against contamination and preserve the carbon films integrity over time.

Q: What process ensures these grids are ready for immediate use upon arrival?

A: Each grid undergoes a plasma-cleaning treatment prior to packaging, removing surface contaminants and rendering them ready for direct application in TEM workflows.

Q: What is the primary benefit of using a 200 mesh gold grid for electron microscopy?

A: A 200 mesh gold grid provides a balanced combination of mechanical stability, high electron transparency, and compatibility with standard TEM holders, facilitating reliable and reproducible imaging results.
