Product Description

These thin cast films of Formvar have been strengthened with the addition of a layer of evaporated carbon on gold grids. The composite films have extra resilience and strength compared with carbon films. They are recommended for use where the grid has to undergo several processing steps during specimen preparation.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.

Formvar carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Exceptional Film Quality for Accurate Imaging

The Formvar/Carbon-coated gold grids feature a continuous, smooth film with minimal pinholes. This ensures stable and reliable support for delicate TEM specimens, resulting in clear, high-resolution images with minimal background interference during analysis.

Superior Material Construction and Purity

Constructed from high purity gold mesh, Formvar polyvinyl formal, and evaporated carbon, these support grids guarantee contaminant-free surfaces. Their chemical inertness and neutral pH make them highly compatible for a wide range of sample preparations and imaging protocols in TEM laboratories.

Safe Handling and Longevity

Each grid is designed for safe use and long shelf life, remaining effective for up to two years if stored properly in a dry, dust-free environment. For best results, users should handle grids with antistatic tools, avoiding direct contact with the film surface to prevent damage and contamination.

FAQs of Formvar/Carbon on 400 Mesh Gold (Pack of 25):

Q: How should I handle Formvar/Carbon on 400 Mesh Gold grids to avoid damaging the thin film?

A: Always use clean, antistatic, and dust-free instruments such as tweezers when handling these grids. Avoid touching the film surface directly to minimize the risk of contamination or rupture.

Q: What are the benefits of using gold grids with Formvar/Carbon coatings in TEM applications?

A: Gold grids provide high mechanical stability, chemical inertness, and minimal background interference. The Formvar/Carbon coatings offer smooth, continuous support, enabling high-resolution imaging of delicate specimens without structural compromise.

Q: When should I replace or discard TEM support grids from a pack?

A: Replace grids if the film shows any damage, excessive pinholes, or contamination. Unused grids can be stored for up to two years in a dry, dust-free grid box for optimal shelf life.

Q: Where should I store unused Formvar/Carbon-coated grids to maintain their quality?

A: Store unused grids in grid boxes kept in dry, dust-free environments to prevent contamination and prolong film integrity.

Q: What process is used to manufacture these support grids for electron microscopy?

A: The grids are fabricated from high purity gold mesh, then coated with a thin Formvar film followed by the evaporation of a carbon layer to achieve consistent thickness and smoothness.

Q: How can these Formvar/Carbon-coated grids improve my microscopy results?

A: They provide a stable, clean, and uniform support for specimens, reducing artifacts and enhancing contrast for more accurate TEM imaging outcomes.
