Product Description

These thin cast films of Formvar have been strengthened with the addition of a layer of evaporated carbon on copper grids. The composite films have extra resilience and strength compared with carbon films. They are recommended for use where the grid has to undergo several processing steps during specimen preparation.

Supplied either in packs of 25 or 50 grids in a grid box depending on each particular product.

Formvar carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Exceptional Film Integrity and Conductivity

These Formvar/carbon-coated copper grids are engineered for robust support and optimal electron transmission, thanks to the high-purity resin film and precisely layered carbon overlay. The carbon coating not only enhances conductivity but also facilitates high-resolution TEM imaging, ensuring fine details of specimens are clearly observed.

Reliable Compatibility and Versatile Usage

Standardized 3.05 mm diameter and 300 mesh size ensure compatibility with most TEM instruments. The grids are meticulously manufactured to analytical and research-grade standards, making them suitable for a wide range of microscopy applications, particularly for supporting ultra-thin sections in biological or materials research.

Safe Handling and Storage Recommendations

Handle each grid with anti-static tweezers to prevent film rupture and contamination. Store the pack in a dry, dust-free environment, away from heat and humidity. Proper storage preserves grid integrity for up to 12 years, ensuring dependable performance when needed.

FAQs of Formvar/Carbon on 300 Mesh Copper (Pack of 50):

Q: How should Formvar/Carbon on copper grids be handled to avoid damage?

A: These grids are delicate, so always use anti-static tweezers and handle them by the edges. Avoid contact with the film surface to prevent rupture or contamination, ensuring the grid remains intact for high-quality microscopy imaging.

Q: What is the primary benefit of the carbon overlay on Formvar TEM grids?

A: The carbon layer provides enhanced electrical conductivity, minimizing charging effects and improving image contrast and resolution during TEM analysis, which is essential for clear visualization of ultra-thin samples.

Q: When should I render the grid surface hydrophilic by glow discharge?

A: If your application requires the grid surface to be wettable (e.g., biological specimens), render it hydrophilic just before sample deposition using glow discharge, as the surface is naturally hydrophobic.

Q: Where should these TEM grids be stored to maintain shelf life?

A: Store the grids in a clean, dry, dust-free place, away from direct heat and humidity. Under these conditions, they retain optimal quality for up to 12 years.

Q: What types of samples are best suited for use with these grids?

A: These grids are ideal for supporting ultra-thin sections or particles prepared for transmission electron microscopy, including samples from biological, polymer, or material science research.

Q: How does the mesh size affect the grids performance in TEM?

A: The 300 mesh provides a fine balance between support and open area, allowing for stable sample placement while maximizing electron transmission for detailed imaging.

Q: What makes these grids suitable for most TEM instruments?

A: Their standard 3.05 mm diameter and 300 mesh size meet the requirements of most TEM holders and stages, ensuring broad instrument compatibility across multiple laboratory setups.
