Product Description

These thin cast films of Formvar have been strengthened with the addition of a layer of evaporated carbon on nickel grids. The composite films have extra resilience and strength compared with carbon films. They are recommended for use where the grid has to undergo several processing steps during specimen preparation.

Supplied as 25 or 50 grids in a grid box.

Formvar carbon support films can be applied to other grid sizes, material or type. Further details available on request.

Superior Sample Support for TEM

These Formvar/Carbon coated nickel grids offer outstanding stability and durability for electron microscopy. The thin support film elevates contrast and sample integrity, making them highly effective for imaging delicate biological materials as well as robust material science specimens. The 100 mesh structure delivers consistent, high-resolution results.

Precision Engineering and High Purity Materials

Constructed from over 99% pure nickel and coated with a meticulously applied Formvar/carbon film, each grid guarantees purity and performance. The careful fabrication process results in a uniform surface ideal for research-grade applications, helping to reduce background interference and support reproducibility in scientific studies.

Application Versatility and Reliable Handling

These TEM grids are designed for compatibility with a wide range of sample typesbiological or material-based. Packaged in antistatic containers for safe storage and transport, they are best handled with clean forceps to preserve the delicate film. Their robust construction provides an invaluable foundation for all electron microscopy sample preparations.

FAQs of Formvar/Carbon on 100 Mesh Nickel (Pack of 50):

Q: How should Formvar/Carbon on 100 Mesh Nickel grids be handled to avoid damage?

A: Formvar/Carbon coated grids are delicate; handle them with clean, antistatic forceps and avoid touching the film. Always work in a clean, dry environment to prevent contamination or breakage of the support film.

Q: What types of samples are these grids compatible with?

A: These grids are suitable for both biological and materials science specimens, offering excellent support for any sample requiring transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis.

Q: Where and how should these grids be stored?

A: Store the grids in their antistatic grid box within a clean, dry environment. Keeping them away from dust, moisture, and direct handling preserves the integrity and stability of the support film.

Q: What are the benefits of using Formvar/Carbon coated nickel grids in TEM?

A: These grids provide high mechanical stability, superior sample support, and increased contrast, enabling clearer imaging for both biological and material samples. Their high purity minimizes background signal and ensures reliable research results.

Q: What is the process for preparing samples on these grids?

A: Specimens are typically deposited or mounted onto the Formvar/carbon film. Use clean tools to avoid contaminating or breaking the film, and allow any solvents to evaporate before TEM analysis to maintain film integrity.

Q: When should the Formvar/Carbon film be removed, and how?

A: If necessary, the Formvar film can be dissolved using organic solvents such as chloroform or ethyl acetate, which are compatible with most sample preparation protocols. Water cannot be used as Formvar is insoluble in water.

Q: What makes these grids advantageous for electron microscopy compared to alternatives?

A: The combination of Formvar and carbon provides a stable, conductive, and low-background support surface, while the high-purity nickel grid offers structural rigidity, making them ideal for reproducible, high-resolution TEM imaging.
